Thousands of residents across Queensland, New South Wales and Victoria are assessing damage to their homes and businesses after the nation's fire crisis.

Master Electricians Australia has established a free hotline for affected residents to help prevent dodgy scammers taking them for a ride.

Chief Executive Malcolm Richards told Sky News he did not want to see vulnerable people being taken advantage of.
