OptiFlox chemistry deployed for Phoenix Process trial in Bowen Basin
Summary: SciDev’s OptiFlox polymer system designed for process water and wastewater treatment is being trialled at a major coking coal site in the Northern Bowen Basin, Queensland.....
OptiFlox takes in a range of coagulants and flocculants for mineral and mining waste water treatment and is available in both liquid and powder form.
The six-month commercial trial will see OptiFlox products used on a belt press filter from noted American equipment supplier Phoenix Process Equipment as a way to increase productivity during the coal handling process.
Phoenix’s belt filter presses convert pre-thickened slurry into filter cakes that can be more easily handled via a dewatering process.
The New South Wales-based company entered into an memorandum of understanding (MOU) with Phoenix in January 2018 to evaluate opportunities to integrate OptiFlox tech into Phoenix’s chemical and dewatering equipment.
Pending successful trial, this may result in a long-term contract between the two parties. In an announcement signed by company secretary Heath Roberts, SciDev said it was “confident that further commercial trials will be secured during the September quarter” with another coking coal producer in the Bowen Basin and a heavy mineral sands operation in South Australia.
