Nearly 50,000 Sydney homes are still without power following the weekend’s wild weather and Ausgrid have called for the army to help with clean up efforts.

The ETU said thousands of jobs were cut since 2015 as a result of government privatisation agenda cuts and cuts by Australian energy regulators.

Mr Page told Sky News “the distributers need to have the capacity to deal with this and they currently don’t”.

“The Federal Government and State Government have got to recognise they trimmed these distributers too far,” he said.
