The Brisbane Energy, Chemical and Resources group has an exciting, new opportunity for a Chief Electrical Engineer.

About the opportunity

This role is responsible for the operational management and effective daily leadership and administration of the Electrical team with the objectives of safely, efficiently, and effectively delivering high quality engineering to our valued clients.

The Chief Engineer ensures the highest level of professionalism, meeting the business’ and client needs demonstrating technical expertise in the concepts, practices and procedures of electrical engineering and design. The Chief is a top-level contributor / specialist who can problem solve, identify risk and perform complex tasks.

The position will be responsible for

  • Develop discipline design procedures, work processes and engineering systems to improve the efficiency of the Electrical engineering discipline and to co-ordinate these with other groups to achieve project needs
  • Co-ordinate project design activities within the region to ensure the achievement of quality, completion and project objectives
  • Evaluate and peruse design changes initiated within Electrical engineering discipline on projects
  • Contribute directly to the resolution of technically difficult design problems on projects and consulting with management to resolve issues
  • Arrange for, and ensure that, all Electrical engineering designs, specifications, calculations, drawings and other design documents meet the requirements of the relevant Quality Assurance Plan and the project and are reviewed and properly checked in a logical and thorough manner and are properly authorised before issuing for construction
  • Review and audit outputs from the discipline team members to ensure compliance with technical standards, procedures and systems and project requirements
  • Participate in project design safety and technical reviews when appropriate
  • Co-ordinate project design activities within Electrical engineering to ensure the achievement of quality, completion and profit objectives
  • Prepare staff hour and cost estimates for proposals
  • Selection of design methodology and associated software for discipline engineering activities on projects
  • Provide technical leadership and guidance to all employees within the Electrical engineering discipline network
  • Carry out performance appraisals for National consistency across the Electrical engineering discipline
  • Select and monitor the performance of external consultants in Electrical engineering.
  • Plan, develop and coordinate the required training programs for the Electrical engineering discipline network
  • Selection and recruitment of discipline members
  • Develop a succession plan for all positions in the Electrical discipline
  • Coach and mentor employees in the Electrical engineering discipline network with respect to work processes, values and leadership
  • Ensure that the discipline is fully informed of all current Company Practice Standards, recognised Codes of Practice and the requirements of the relevant Statutory and other Authorities
  • Prepare discipline engineering designs, drawings, and other documents in sufficient details to prepare staff hour and cost estimates for proposals
  • Develop client base by meeting with nominated Account Clients on a regular basis, fostering relationship, by way of site visits, conferences and personal contacts

About You

  • Tertiary qualification in Electrical Engineering
  • Registered Professional Engineer of Queensland (RPEQ) and Member of a body such the Institute of Engineers, Australia
  • Extensive experience working on Oil and Gas and Mining/Metals projects
  • A subject matter expert who can effectively and pro-actively deliver solutions to technical challenges
  • A leader, focused on continuous improvement, skills development and relationship management
  • An effective and confident communicator, able to foster an inclusive and supportive culture
