Where you will be working

 

Rio Tinto Weipa is located 900km north-west of Cairns on the Gulf of Carpentaria and has been operating for over 50 years. Over the years, it has developed into a vibrant and diverse cultural hub of the Western Cape. Weipa offers a coastal community rich in geographical beauty and cultural heritage that provides families with opportunities to participate in leisure activities, sports and community events. With a strong sense of community, the region has plenty of natural beauty to offer including the opportunities for boating, fishing, camping and exploring. Construction of the Amrun project, located 40 kilometres south west of Weipa, is currently underway to expand our bauxite operations and continue production from one of the world’s premier bauxite deposits. This expansion will strengthen the economy and provide exciting opportunities for the people of Cape York and Queensland for future generations.

 

About the role

 

We are looking for an Electrical Engineer providing engineering support and expertise to the Power Distribution & Electrical Services Teams in the areas of asset lifecycle management, maintenance, condition monitoring, power system modifications and improvement projects for our three local mining areas.

 

About you

 

This role is a great opportunity for someone with high voltage electrical engineering & power distribution experience to make a mark within the Rio Tinto business and be part of our electrical services efficiency and improvements projects team. 

 

What you will need for this role

 

To be considered for this role, you will have:

  • A Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering
  • Experience in Power Distribution system maintenance
  • Experience on power system protection studies, maintenance and testing
  • Experience with HV systems ranging from 3.3kv to 22kV and their LV auxiliaries
  • Field experience with commissioning, troubleshooting and repair of electrical systems
  • Exposure to Electrical design
  • Undertaking power system incident investigations and failure mode analysis

 It will also be beneficial if you have:

  • Chartered Professional Electrical Engineer Qualification or being eligible for it
  • Knowledge & experience in back-up generation systems
  • Knowledge on Asset Management and Maintenance practices and standards, like for instance RCM, FMECA, TPM, Asset Integrity Assessments, etc.
