About the company

The Office of the Technical Regulator within the Department of Energy and Mining, is responsible for ensuring the safety of workers, consumers and property as well as compliance with legislation and applicable technical standards in the electricity, gas and water industries across South Australia. A rare, permanent, full-time position is now available to join their dedicated team situated within the Adelaide CBD.

About the role

The purpose of this role is to provide advice and expertise for the ongoing development, implementation and administration of energy transition and safety regulations within the power and energy sector in South Australia. As a result, you will immerse yourself in South Australia’s exciting power systems portfolio.

Main responsibilities would include:

  • managing the electricity load shedding schedule, providing policy and operational advice to government agencies, electrical entities and the Australian Energy Market Operator (AEMO)
  • assisting with state-wide audits and providing professional advice to industry, electrical entities and other providers for the safety and technical performance of electricity network systems
  • providing professional expertise for the ongoing development, implementation and administration of critical technical and safety regulation for the electrical and related energy industries in South Australia
  • project-managing the development of procedures and policy for specific operational issues which contributes to the effective operation of the Office of the Technical Regulator

Skill and experience

  • Degree - Electrical Engineer
  • Experience in a technical role within the power and energy sector
  • High level technical experience with demonstrated ability to problem solve
  • Strong negotiation skills
  • Effective communication skills, both written and verbal


This is predominantly an autonomous role and you would need to be able to take ownership as well as be a team player. An open door policy enables you to have meaningful conversations with the Technical Regulator and the leadership team.
