Job Description

The role
Cardno is currently seeking a Senior Electrical Engineer to join our Utilities, Power and Water Infrastructure team based in our Fortitude Valley head office.

Your responsibilities will include -

Electrical Systems

  • Transformer sizing
  • Design of HV and LV switchboards
  • Fault clearing - discrimination and selectivity
  • Design and hardware specification for motor control, protection and monitoring
  • MCC starter cell testing and troubleshooting
  • Productions of termination diagrams for end-to-end wiring
  • Design of control interface and monitoring

Control/Instrumentation Systems

  • PLC design using a variety of architectures
  • Alarm monitoring and reporting
  • Sensor calibration and specification
  • Wiring termination schematics and point to point testing


  • Cable sizing, volt drop calculation and mechanical protection
  • Ensure cabling requirements of various systems are met
  • Power and control cabling specifications and procurement
  • Cable support systems design, segregation and derating
  • Preparation of cable schedules, pull sheets, drumming, labelling
  • Preparation of testing schedules (cores/colour check, continuity, insulation, impedance)

About you
Your key attributes essential for success in this position include:

  • Tertiary qualifications in Electrical Engineering
  • Demonstrated minimum seven years experience in a similar role
  • Demonstrated leadership and team management skills
  • Strong interpersonal skills and an ability to work collaboratively with a team of engineers and designers to ensure projects are delivered on time and within budget.
  • Commercial acumen and problem solving skills
  • A tenacious approach to work challenges and a self-confidence to produce the best results
