Job Description

An exciting opportunity exists for a Senior Control Systems Engineer to drive the development and integration of controls systems for Boart Longyear drilling machines and equipment.  As a senior member of the Global Research and Development team, based in Adelaide, you will have complete autonomy to shape the future of the next iteration of control system technologies for our drilling rigs and associated equipment.

Roles and responsibilities include:

  • Lead the design, configuration and implementation of control systems for the global engineering group.
  • Be recognised as the expert in control system design and be the “keeper” of control systems knowledge for the engineering team.
  • Research new and emerging technologies for integration into BLY’s control systems.
  • Define and implement the technical direction for control systems development for drilling machines in R&D, internal operations and product offering environments.
  • Identify the opportunity and engage external resources where appropriate to drive the development of control system platforms for multiple machine configurations.
  • Offer design expertise and advice to the engineering team with respect to electrical and controls system engineering requirements.
  • Provide direction to and mentor a small team of control system engineers and drive peer review processes.
  • Actively contribute to the global product framework with respect to control system implementation for the product road map.

The successful candidate will have relevant tertiary qualifications (Mechatronics, Electrical, Instrumentation & Control or Computer Science) and significant experience with developing control systems using CODESYS.  Exposure to control system development in an industrial environment (mining, manufacturing, factory automation) and an understanding of relevant machine design standards (ISO13849, AS4024, ASNZ3000) are mandatory. Exposure to ifm hardware will be highly regarded.  In addition, well developed written/ verbal communication and organisation skills, will allow you to work both independently and contribute to the wider team.  Occasional national and international travel is a requirement of the position.
